The phenomenal original Deus Ex, as well as its underappreciated cyberpunk sequel, Invisible War, are on sale now for half the price of a small McDonald’s fries-

There’s no doubt that Ion Storm, the studio set up by John Romero and Tom Hall, had its fair share of disappointments when active, the most notable being the high-profile FPS flop Daikatana. But Ion Storm was also the studio that developed the original Deus Ex, one of PC gaming’s most iconic and groundbreaking games.

Deus Ex was game-changing on release and, even by today’s standards in 2024, the sheer breadth of its systems and the complexity of its level design is remarkable. Yes, today its graphics are almost comically basic, but its immersive gameplay experience remains undulled and as addictive as ever. I know, as I own both Deus Ex and its sequel, Deus Ex: Invisible War, and have had hours of fun playing both. I consider the origina…

Epic removes the item rarity system from Fortnite but some fans ain’t happy, and think it’s ‘trying to gouge players’-

Fortnite’s latest v29.20 patch has added Aang and the gang from Avatar: The Last Airbender, as well as five new tracks for Fortnite Rocket Racing: Neon Rush, but many players seem to be hung up on one update concerning how the locker works.

Epic Games is removing tiers and rarities from its locker, meaning that cosmetic items will no longer fall into the categories of rare, epic, legendary, and mythic. The blog post says: “The Shop has evolved significantly to support multiple types of cosmetics and items across games, so we’re retiring the old Battle Royale-inspired system of colors and tags for cosmetic quality. Different Series of cosmetics—such as the Icon Series or Gaming Legends Series—will still be there to help you find your favorite stuff!”

Citizen Sleeper 2- Starward Vector is coming to Game Pass on day one, and will be inspired by Cowboy Bebop and Firefly-

I played Citizen Sleeper right before moving to a new city on my own this year, and the experience of coming to a foreign, terrifying space—only to build a home there against all odds, finding reasons to stay—was one of those irreplaceable indie gaming moments that changed the way my brain’s wired. To say I’m excited for Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector is an understatement, even if I’m sure it’ll make me bawl my eyes out all over again.

Thankfully, developer Jump Over The Age is being charitable, allowing me to do so for the low price of a Game Pass sub, as revealed during Xbox’s showcase at Gamescom 2023.

“You can expect the same freeform tabletop RPG-inspired dice based gameplay,” says creator Gareth Damian Martin, “with slice-of-life stories and relatable c…

US government report reveals how Discord, Roblox, Reddit and others co-operate with the FBI and Homeland Security over content like ‘user-generated re-creations of mass shootings’-

A newly published US Government Accountability Report (GAO) looks at the role of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security in combating domestic violent extremism online, and in the process reveals what we surely all knew anyway. Discord? Reddit? Roblox. All your base are belong to the Feds!

The GAO report (first picked up by The Intercept) is more wide-ranging than just gaming, but is essentially focused on online communication platforms of all sorts, how US government and law enforcement agencies interact with them, and what the companies themselves are and should be doing about extreme content. The report is based on interviews with five companies that have been coordinating with the FBI and DHS: Roblox, Discord, Reddit, plus one …

The official NBA game is once again stiffing PC players-

2K Games has detailed some features of the upcoming NBA2K24, but the biggest and most disappointing for PC players is that, yep, we’re getting the version made for the PS4 and Xbox One generation of consoles. 2K didn’t come right out and say this, but the devil’s in the detail of its big pitch for this year’s entry: crossplay. Except, get this, only the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions will actually have this new feature.

This can be seen in an official NBA2K24 FAQ, and there’s further confirmation in this trailer, which is all about crossplay before it specifies “new gen” only at the end.

Short of 2K CEO Strauss Zelnick personally phoning up every PC gamer and shouting “fuck off!” down the phone, that’s as close to a confirmation as the publisher will give. An…

Vertical city builder Laysara- Summit Kingdom just surprise launched on Steam-

I’m not much of a city-builder girl—too many moving parts for my brain to handle—but I have been rather excited for the release of Laysara: Summit Kingdom. Trying to build an entire city up craggy cliffs and steep mountains all while trying to prevent your settlements being crushed by a giant ice ball sounds deliciously menacing to me. I’ve been wondering how much longer I’ll have to wait—turns out the answer is “zero minutes” as the game has just surprise-dropped in early access on Steam.

Laysara was originally supposed to release sometime in 2023, but a November update from developer Quite OK Games announced it was being pushed back to early 2024.

“We realized we’ll need some extra time to deliver a polished and complete experience on launch,” a Ste…

World of Warcraft’s executive producer says the game’s recent maverick events like Plunderstorm and MoP- Remix are owed to a squad of madcaps called ‘the live team’-

If you’ve been paying any attention to World of Warcraft in the past year or so, you’ll have noticed that things are getting a little weird. Not in a bad way—in fact, while other MMORPGs would struggle with a content lull before their next big expansion, we’re only a few months out from The War Within and there’s never been so many ways to get your WoW fix.

Season of Discovery, several flavours of Classic including the approaching Cataclysm, Plunderstorm (to be soon replaced with the harebrained, private server energy of Mists of Pandaria: Remix)—oh yeah, and retail. There’s a lot to do.

Speaking to executive producer Holly Longdale in a group interview during a World of Warcraft: The War Within preview event, myself and several other journalists got to …
